We spent the entire Lenten Season in Reading - from the week of Shrove Tuesday through Maundy Thursday, which happened to fall on the spring equinox or solstice this year. Now you know how into mazes and labyrinths I am, so some time ago I had made a list of labyrinths that could be found in the state of PA. Lo and behold, there was one right here in Reading! It is located on the Penn State/Berks County campus which is right along the Tupelhocken River. And because it was Solstice, there was going to be a candlelight ceremony there tonight. Now the Druid in me was excited at the opportunity to participate in this event, however, it being our last night in Reading, we had other places to go. It would have been a perfect night except for gale force winds that would have put a big chill on the festivities. The entrance to the labyrinth was festooned with faux flowers.
Wending my way along the path, notice the votives placed on the circumference. How pretty this would be after dark. The center of the labyrinth. Quite a beautiful mosaic.
David's shadow shows that it is late in the day when the pictures were taken.
There were also some trellises that held votives.
I'm surprised they were still standing considering how hard the wind was blowing.
In the background you can see one of the many beautiful stone houses in this area.
This building houses some of the school's offices. Not a bad place to work!
The barn has been preserved and converted to meeting rooms and offices. There is a garden in front of the barn, which when blooming must be a sight to the eyes and nose. The section with the bee skep had the aromatic herbs in it. The fountain looking structure in the background is the water source - not containing a well or spring, but a faucet.
Views of the Tupelhocken.
One of the geese along the river. This one is keeping his nose (er beak) warm under his wing. The geese must enjoy the labyrinth too as one of them had left a "calling card" on it.
