You entered the road to the castle at Maniago through this archway.
This picture is looking back at it from the other side.
It was a very steep, uphill climb to reach the top.
What we found were ruin of a castle, just the walls were standing. No date to indicate its age.
There was a small chapel to the front; this is the bell tower for it.
From Maniago, we continued up, on, over, through the mountains
And serendipitously discovered this!
The gates were locked and no hours were posted as to when it was open.
All that was there was this sign identifying it.
We continued to drive to Tolmezzo
but arrived too late in the day to see this castle. A trip for another day. ( We hope you are not getting tired of all the mountain pictures --- they are just so beautiful and awe inspiring to us.)
