I noticed that when opened this egg carton, there was this cryptic stamp on EACH one. It denotes use by date, the province where the egg was produced, and even the country (Italy), if it was laid by a free range chicken etc. Just an interesting tidbit about Italian life.
The other week when we came across a town noted for their Roman ruins, Aquileia. There was a major bike race going on and the gathering of them happened to be at the church where most of the ruins were, so we passed that by. However, we did come across this interesting part on the outskirts, a Roman cemetery. As you can see by the sign, it was unlawful for the Romans to bury their dead within city limits. You can also read where they cremated their dead.
Next to where we parked the car to walk down to the Roman cemetery, I noticed this post box that a bird had built a nest in. It appears that he also has TV reception with that antenna-looking stick poking out the top.
Here is the lovely doorway beside which he decided to build his nest.
While driving one of the back roads near Pordenone, this huge pot caught my eye. It was located in an olive grove.
This old olive tree is in a real twist. Maybe this is how the get oil out of the olives!
We had passed this “corner post” the other week, but didn’t stop to take a picture of it. (Traffic is always a consideration!) But today the coast was somewhat clear, so David was able to snap it. We have no idea why it’s here, what it’s for…. It’s just attached to the corner of this building at a very busy intersection. And thanks to the Rotary Club for restoring it.
