Tonight we ate in Lebanon, no not Lebanon, Pennsylvania. We tried a new restaurant that featured Mediterranean cuisine. At our waitress's wise suggestion we ordered the Aladdin's platter which was a sample of a variety of dishes. Kibbeh, Shawarma, Kafta, Falafel---exotic sounding names for a variety of distinctive tastes. I had fun trying to guess what spices were used in each of them. The owner, a Lebanese, came to our table and gave us a cook's homily on each of these foods. I think I was most impressed with realizing what quality and healthy foods these were. So it was in good conscience that we ordered Asmaliye, a delicious custardy dessert flavored with rose water--truly unique. Too bad it wasn't Friday--they have belly dancers then.
