March 22, 2008

Since I knew we wouldn't be here when spring arrived in PA, we went south to meet it. So for Easter weekend we had reservations at this little cottage at Sinking Springs Farm near Elkton Md. As you can see by the pictures spring had arrived there. Notice the daffodils, flowering trees, periwinkle, primrose and green grass. The cottage where we stayed was just adorable.

One of the owners does flower arranging, wreath workshops and herb seminars, teas and tours in the barn next to the cottage.

There were all kinds of gardens from herb, paths through the woods and the wonderful susprise of a labyrinth.

The main house was originally built as a dogtrot, which is a breezeway type structure with a room on either side. Over the generations it has been improved. The original house dates from the early eighteenth century and has been in the owners family for many generations. Here is a shot of the end of the house showing the logs on one of the dogtrot rooms.
